It’s taken 400 years but we won!

Swan Talbot Award

Having being nominated in the White Rose Awards for best Yorkshire Pub of 2016 along with our sister pub The Chequers, we found out a couple of months ago that we were also nominated for The Yorkshire Life traditional pub of the year!

A fantastic achievement on its own, we were honoured to be nominated, recognising all of the hard work that our front of house staff and chefs have out in over the months and years. The awards ceremony was held at the fantastic Rudding park, Harrogate on a Monday afternoon and Pete along with Antony were joined by Yorkshire’s best restauranteurs, hoteliers and publicans enjoying a stunning meal. We were up against two more of Yorkshire’s finest traditional pubs but came out on top being crowned traditional pub of the year.

It’s a huge award for the Swan & Talbot and we are very proud of all of the team who have made it possible!

Double award nomination for Ainsty Inns

White Rose Awards

We extremely proud that we have two of our venues, The Chequers and Swan & Talbot nominated in this years White Rose Awards in the ‘Yorkshire Pub’ category.

It follows on from last year when we had The Chequers in the running for ‘Best Pub’ category. On that occasion we were pipped to the post but this year we’re looking forward to having two of our venues competing for the award.

The White Rose Awards are the largest celebration of tourism excellence in the UK, rewarding the very best in Yorkshire. With an independent voting panel visiting venues over a 6 week period the awards are announced at a glittering awards ceremony later in the year. You can see who we’re competing against on the White Rose Awards Website here.

It comes as our newest venue, the Duke of York Inn, is in the final 12 of the Welcome to Yorkshire ‘Yorkshire’s Favourite pub’ award. Voting for the final round closes on June 27th and you can cast your votes on the Welcome to Yorkshire Website.

Brand New Menu Launch

With the summer months on the horizon we have developed an exciting new menu which is released on Thursday 12th May.

To complement our classic dishes we have chosen some lighter, healthier dishes perfect for enjoying in our restaurant, in the bar or in the beer garden. There are lots of new starters, main courses and sharing boards to pick from all produced from locally sourced ingredients from suppliers including Johnsons of Wetherby, Sykes House Farm and Hodgsons Fish Mongers.

Celebrate The Tour de Yorkshire with a pint of ‘Tandem Triumph’ Ale

We are launching a special edition cask ale, ‘Tandem Triumph,’ to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire passing two of its popular four pubs this April. A keen supporter of local producers, we have formed a partnership with Ainsty Ales Brewery, to produce a one off ale to be served at two of our four sites, The Swan & Talbot, Wetherby and The Beehive, Thorner.

The ale, ‘Tandem Triumph’ is described as; A light Blonde Ale with a Grapefruit and Tropical nose, giving a refreshing and slightly Hoppy, dry finish.’ Tandem Triumph will be sold for £3.30 a pint at each site, launching on Friday 29th April at The Swan & Talbot and available on Saturday 30th April at The Beehive Thorner. Customers will also be able to enjoy a barbecue in the beer gardens of each of the pubs, during the exciting event’s race day. It will mark a great way to join in and celebrate the occasion.Tour de Yorkshire in Wetherby

Owner of Ainsty Inns, Antony Pratt said, “We are incredibly fortunate to have the Tour de Yorkshire pass two of our pubs on consecutive days. To mark the event, we felt we should go the extra mile to do something special and partnering Ainsty Ales, to produce a one off ale, was the obvious answer.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming customers on Friday at The Swan & Talbot and Saturday at The Beehive to taste ‘Tandem Triumph,’ along with food from our Race Day barbecue. It’s fantastic to be able to work with local producers, such as Ainsty Ales, who are flying the flag for Yorkshire produce.”

Ainsty Ales, founded in September 2013, by ‘local-lad’ Andy Herrington, has gone from strength to strength and is currently looking to expand into new premises to increase production. Andy is passionately committed to his ethos, ‘To produce great tasting beers as ecologically as possible and to work with great local businesses.’

The Tour de Yorkshire will be passing The Swan & Talbot in Wetherby on Friday 29th April and The Beehive in Thorner on April 30th
